The ELQ breaker (safety switch) combines overload, short circuit
and residual current protection (earth leakage) in one compact
unit in a single pole configuration. This style of circuit
breaker, which has become mandatory in new installations,
safeguards people from the danger of electric shock by instantly
interrupting the electrical circuit to the load when a fault
current to earth exceeds the rated sensitivity which is usually
expressed in milli-Amp (mA). Protection applications include such areas as electrical office
equipment, industrial plants, electrical hand tools, GPOs and
socket outlets. Special high sensitivity (10mA) ELQ breakers are
available for hospital applications and medical equipment.
The ELQ’s ability to respond to these fault currents is
remarkably fast - in fact, the response time is less than 40
milliseconds. Although the breaker combines three functions, the
mounting width space is the same as a standard single-pole
Quicklag circuit breaker. |
